THE LEGACY OF SCIENCE: SEVERO OCHOA (1905-1993)

A journey through the life of Severo Ochoa, Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1959 for his discoveries about the decoding of deoxyribonucleic acid (RNA).

 

 

The exhibition reveals the great personal and professional vicissitudes that he had to suffer during the Spanish civil war and which influenced his training, giving him the opportunity to work with scientists at renowned success in both Europe and the United States.

The Science Museum Principe Felipe houses the legacy of Dr. Severo Ochoa owned by the Bancaja Foundation. Through parts of his legacy, the exhibition explores the various matters to which Professor Severo Ochoa dedicated his research throughout his long career. Moreover, showing the great influence that his experience and knowledge in the development and modernization of the study of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology had in Spain. Proof of this are the amount of awards he received and can be seen in the exhibition.
