"ASTROCIUTAT" ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències announces the first edition of the international astrophotography competition ASTROCIUTAT. The Universe in Pictures.

 

Participate with your snapshots of the universe and show your talent, incredible prizes are waiting for you!

GENERAL INFORMATION

    • Participation period: from Tuesday 4 June 2024 at 3 p.m. until Thursday 18 July 2024 at 3 p.m. (Madrid time).
    • Prize-giving ceremony: will take place on 4 October 2024, Space Day, at the Museu de les Ciències.

The competition is open to any natural person who, during the period of validity of the competition, participates in this action under the terms described in the rules.

COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The competition consists of 5 categories:

    1. Deep Sky: Photographs or captures of elements outside our solar system.
      They can be taken with telescopes or telephoto lenses.
    2. Moon: Images centred on the Moon, where surface details are allowed to be highlighted,
      lunar phases, etc., and where other elements combined with the theme of the category can appear.
    3. Sun: Photographs where the protagonist is the Sun, and where other elements may appear combined with the theme of the category.
    4. Milky Way: Photographs that highlight the majesty of our galaxy.
    5. Circumpolar: Captures of circumpolar stars or trails of stars during
      long exposures

JURY, PRIZES AND WINNERS 2024

The specialised jury will be made up of the photographers Jesús M. García Flores and Toni Sendra, a representative of Fotopro, a representative of Fotoastro González, a representative of the Astronomical Association Aras de los Olmos, a representative of the Valencian Astronomy Association and a representative of CACSA.

Two prizes will be awarded for each category. First prize worth €1,000 and second prize worth €500.

 

DEEP SKY Category
1st prize: Sky Watcher 127/1500 WiFi telescope and accessories, courtesy of FotoAstro González.

LUNA Category

1st prize: €1,000 voucher for the purchase of Sony or Canon equipment, courtesy of Fotopro.

Prizes for all the winners:

    • Tickets to the Museum and the Hemisfèric, two for each prize.
    • Detail with promotional products from the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències.
    • Tickets for each winner and a companion to the Alto Turia Astronomy Centre -CAAT- belonging to the Valencian Astronomy Association (two per person).

The prizes will be communicated to the winners by e-mail to the address they have provided during the month of August.

They will then be published on the CACSA website and social networks.

The awards ceremony and the opening of the exhibition will take place on 4 October, Space Day, at the Museu de les Ciències, in the morning (time to be determined).

DEEP SKY Category
1st prize: Juan José Coronado González
Title: M51 whirlpool galaxy
One of the best known galaxies. It is very surprising the gravitational interaction between both galaxies leaving these beautiful tidal tails. It is at a distance of 31 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.
2nd prize: José María Delgado Barba
Title: Horsehead Nebula
Photograph taken in El Campillo (Huelva) between November 2022 and April 2023. It is made up of 450 shots of 420 seconds plus 12 hours of calibration for a total of 75 hours. It is a nebula located in the Orion constellation.

 


Category MOON
1st prize: Rami Dibo
Title: Fly me to the moon
Photo taken at a very precise moment when the moon and the trajectory of the plane align perfectly, creating an eternal bond.
2nd prize: Alex Alemany Ribera
Title: Mineral crescent moon
Captured from Alginet (Valencia) newton Tasco 114/900 telescope and Zwoasi178mc camera recording 60 sec videos and processing with Astrosurface. Mosaic of two tesserae in crescent phase with colours highlighting the composition of titanium oxides in bluish tones and iron oxides in browns.

 

 

SOL Category
1st Prize: Pedro Miguel Alfaia Barcia RE’.

SUN (20240602) H-alpha (08:00 UTC). TV NP101 F/5.4 DS SM90II/SM60 BF30 PGR GRASSHOPPER 3 GS3-U3-28S4M.
2nd prize: Jorge Ciscar Ruiz
Title: VALENCIAHENGE
Sunrise along the Avenida del Puerto in Valencia, one of the longest (if not the longest) straights in the city. I love to attend this annual event because the movement of the street means that no two photos are the same.

 

 

VÍA LÁCTEA Category
1st prize: Jordi López Coy
Title: Stargazer
Photo taken in Ouarzazate (Morocco) in a place where the sky is spectacular and where they shot films such as Gladiator I and II. It was a complex photograph because it was taken at ground level and because of the reduced space available to have the Milky Way in the frame.
2nd prize: Allexandru Pastor Opris
Title: The aqueduct of the stars
Panoramic view of the Milky Way over the Roman aqueduct Peña Cortada which is located in the municipality of Calles and which was declared a site of cultural interest.

 

 

CIRCUMPOLARS Category
1st prize: Daniel Viñé García
Title: Touching the South Star
In the northern hemisphere the stars will revolve around Polaris or the counterclockwise pole star; in the southern hemisphere the stars revolve around Sigma Octanti, the clockwise southern pole star Sossusvlei. Namibia.
2nd prize: David Valencia Carrasco
Title: El olvido de la ermita (The oblivion of the hermitage)
Hermitage in Tebar (Cuenca). It consists of approximately 450 photos.
