EXHIBITION V CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF JERÓNIMO MUÑOZ. MATHEMATICS, COSMOLOGY AND HUMANISM IN THE RENAISSANCE ERA

The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències presents a captivating exhibition dedicated to Jerónimo Muñoz, a brilliant Valencian astronomer, mathematician, engineer, and Hebraist of the 16th century.

 

Organized by the Universitat de València to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his birth, the exhibition delves into Muñoz’s life and achievements, showcasing his significant impact on the science and society of his era.

Through 15 detailed panels, visitors are transported to 16th-century Valencia, exploring the key moments of Muñoz’s life and how his groundbreaking research reshaped the scientific thinking of his time.

 

From observing comets and eclipses to advancing cosmology and mathematics, Muñoz played a pivotal role in the transition from astrology to modern astronomy.

Special Event:

As part of Science and Technology Week, the Santiago Grisolía Auditorium at the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències will host the lecture: “Animated supernovae of yesterday and today: From Jerónimo Muñoz to dark energy” by professors Vicent Martínez and Iván Martí Vidal (Astronomy and Astrophysics, Universitat de València).
