The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències presents the second edition of the international astrophotography contest Astrociutat. The universe in images, an initiative that combines science, art and outreach to share with the public’s fascination for the cosmos.

Access information: the 10 winning photographs are displayed in the Calle Menor of the Museu de les Ciències, a open-access space. The exhibition aims to inspire, educate and highlight the importanc of astronomy to the public.

The exhibition features the first and second prizes in five key categories of the competition:

• Circumpolar
• Moon
• Sun
• Milky Way

Brief history of astrophotography

Astrophotography, a discipline that unites artistic sensitivity with scientific rigor, was born in 1840 when John William Draper captured the first image of the Moon. Since then, it has captivated both researchers and enthusiasts around the world.
