A Solar Observation Day: Discover Our Star

We invite you to discover the Sun in a safe and engaging way during this guided solar observation event. A unique opportunity to observe our star through specialised telescopes and learn about some of the most fascinating phenomena taking place on its surface and in its atmosphere.

This activity is designed for families to enjoy astronomy together, learn through shared discovery, and find answers to all those questions that arise when we look up at the sky.

 

What Will We Be Able to See on the Sun?

Throughout the activity, we will use specialised equipment that allows us to safely observe different regions of the Sun:

Sunspots in the Photosphere

Using visible-light telescopes, we will observe these cooler, darker regions on the Sun’s surface.

Solar Flares and Prominences in the Chromosphere

Thanks to H-alpha telescopes, we will be able to view these spectacular solar structures, recognised by their characteristic deep red colour.

Solar Projection

In addition, a live image of the Sun will be projected onto a white screen, providing a comfortable, accessible and safe viewing experience for all participants.

Live Experiments: The Nature of Light

The event will go beyond telescope observation. Visitors will also be able to explore an exhibition table dedicated to the nature of light and its behaviour.

Through a practical and highly visual experience, participants will discover key concepts in astronomy and physics by interacting with:

• Glass prisms and spectroscopes
• Newton discs and photoelectric cells
• A tellurium and various scale models of the Solar System

.

The observation session will be guided at all times by specialists from Nébula and the Valencian Astronomy Association, who will explain in an accessible way the structure, composition and temperature of the Sun, while answering all your questions.

🚫 Important Safety Notice

Observations will be carried out exclusively using telescopes equipped with certified solar filters. The Sun must never be observed directly without proper protection.

.

As this is an outdoor activity, participants are advised to bring a hat, water and sunscreen.
