INVISIBLE IN THE COSMOS… AND INVISIBLE IN SCIENCE

Dark Matter, Dark Energy… and the Astronomers History Forgot

In this talk, part of the XVII Conference of the National Center for Particle, Astroparticle, and Nuclear Physics, taking place in Valencia on November 19, 20, and 21, CSIC researcher Olga Mena Requejo will guide us to discover the great “invisibles” of our universe: matter and energy that, although we cannot see directly, leave traces that astronomers study to understand how the cosmos works.

But the conference will not only address cosmic invisibility. It will also highlight the legacy of female scientists who, for a long time, remained invisible to history, despite their work being crucial to understanding the universe. A dual perspective to illuminate what has remained in the dark until now.

Olga Mena Requejo holds a degree in Physics and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is a Scientific Researcher at CSIC in the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (CSIC–UV joint center) and has developed her career at leading international institutions such as Fermilab National Laboratory (USA) and the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Italy). Her research focuses on cosmology and astroparticles, with a special emphasis on neutrinos. She has published over two hundred scientific articles and led numerous outreach initiatives.
