DIA INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER Y LA NIÑA EN LA CIENCIA 2026

Within the framework of the Scientific News Cycle, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències will celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a commemorative activity aimed at students, taking place on February 11, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m., in the Santiago Grisolía Auditorium of the Museu de les Ciències.

The activity, carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate for Equality and the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC), offers an inspiring session entitled Women Scientists as Role Models, focused on the importance of having diverse and equitable role models to build a fairer future. In this context, the Museu de les Ciències and the IFIC Valencia, with the collaboration of the General Directorate for Equality, invite participants to a session dedicated to cutting-edge physics led by three distinguished researchers: Berta Rubio, Laura Molina, and Sonja Orrigo. The activity also includes the initiative “Ask a Scientist”, allowing the audience to interact directly with the researchers and ask questions.

Throughout the session, which will feature presentations by the scientists and some interactive activities, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the daily work of these researchers, their professional career paths, and their experience in the scientific field, as well as participate in a Q&A session. The activity is aimed at lower secondary school students, with ages ranging from 12 to 14 years.

Program

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. · Start of the session with presentations by the invited scientists and development of the session, including interactive activities and a Q&A session with the audience.

The participating scientists belong to the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC). Berta Rubio Barroso is a nuclear physicist, Research Professor at the CSIC, and Professor Ad Honorem at the IFIC. Laura Molina Bueno is a Tenured Scientist at the CSIC in the IFIC, specializing in astroparticle physics (dark sector with NA64) and neutrino physics (DUNE). Sonja Elena Agata Orrigo holds a PhD from the CSIC at the IFIC, specializing in experimental nuclear physics and the study of exotic nuclei through beta decay spectroscopy and total absorption techniques.
