SCIENCE CULTURE DAY. SOLAR OBSERVATION
The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències joins the celebration of the International Day of Scientific Culture, an initiative promoted by FECYT to highlight the importance of science as a fundamental part of our culture and to recognize institutions that promote scientific knowledge in society. As part of this celebration, we invite you to take part in a free solar observation at the Astronomy Garden on Sunday, September 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
During this experience, visitors will be able to safely observe some of the Sun’s most fascinating phenomena in real time, such as the dark spots on the photosphere or the reddish prominences of the chromosphere, made visible thanks to specialized telescopes. Several optical instruments will be available:
-
Telescopes with visible light filters, which allow the observation of sunspots
-
H-alpha telescopes, for viewing flares and prominences
-
A white projection screen, offering a safe and accessible way to view the Sun for all participants
In addition, there will be an educational display table where we’ll explore the nature and behavior of light using prisms, spectroscopes, Newton discs, photoelectric cells, scale models of the Solar System, and other interactive materials. The activity will be guided by expert staff from the company Nébula and the Valencian Astronomical Association, who will share their knowledge about the Sun’s temperature, structure, and composition.
An engaging and educational activity for all ages, aimed at bringing science closer to society and sparking curiosity about the universe around us.
🔆 Important: The solar observation will be carried out exclusively with telescopes equipped with special filters. Never look directly at the Sun without proper protection.
Join this scientific experience and share your visit on social media using the hashtag #DíaCulturaCientífica.
