SMART NANOMEDICINE
The invisible revolution already transforming our health
.
Can a medicine find a diseased cell on its own? Smart nanomedicine is transforming the treatment of complex diseases through the design of nanodrugs capable of crossing biological barriers and acting with great precision exactly where they are needed most.
.
On 27 May, the Museu de les Ciències welcomes María Jesús Vicent, one of Spain’s most internationally renowned researchers in this field. During the session, we will discover how tiny structures, designed molecule by molecule, can transport medicines intelligently to tackle diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
.
The event will be introduced by Amparo Latorre, member of the Expert Committee of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències.
.
What will we discover during the talk?
.
The conference will explore how chemistry, biology and nanotechnology come together to develop more effective and personalised therapies. Key topics include:
.
- Smart nanodrugs: systems capable of releasing medicines selectively.
- Nanotechnology vaccines: new approaches for disease prevention and treatment.
- Precision medicine: more effective treatments with fewer side effects.
- New therapeutic frontiers: applications in oncology and nervous system diseases.
.
María Jesús Vicent heads the Polymer Therapeutics Lab at the Príncipe Felipe Research Center (CIPF) in Valencia and is an internationally recognised leader in the field of nanomedicine.
.
Among her main achievements and positions are:
- Distinguished Researcher at Universitat Jaume I and member of CIBERONC.
- Winner of the 2025 Rei Jaume I Award for New Technologies.
- President of the Controlled Release Society and Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews.
- Holder of 15 patents, several of which have already been transferred to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
