BUILDING SMART CITIES THROUGH AI
On 6 May 2026, a lecture will take place given by Vicente Julián, Full Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València, where he has been a faculty member of the Department of Computer Systems and Computation since 1996. He currently serves as Deputy Director for Research of the department and Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Computer Science.
He is a member of the Valencian Research Institute in Artificial Intelligence and has an extensive research career, with continuous participation in competitive projects under Spain’s National R&D Plan, as well as in European projects and technology transfer contracts. He has acted as principal investigator on numerous projects, including several coordinated at national level, and his scientific output includes more than 300 peer-reviewed publications.
In recent years, he has developed a consolidated line of research in sustainable urban mobility, integrating artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and intelligent systems for transport planning and assessment, as well as for analysing its environmental impact. In addition, he has played an active role in the international scientific community as a conference organiser, programme committee chair, and reviewer for high-impact journals and conferences.
AI in the Transformation of Cities
The lecture will show how artificial intelligence is already transforming our cities through:

Improving urban mobility and traffic management.

Optimising energy use and emergency response.

Reducing environmental impact.
During the talk, practical case studies will be presented, including advanced analytics, predictive models, and digital twins, aimed at building cities that are more sustainable, resilient, and people-centred.
